Angela Villella is a good fit for the first Carlton Italian Festa. Ms Villella is a founder of Mangia! Mangia! a group that works to record and promote traditional Italian cooking styles.
Her goal is shared by the Carlton Italian Festa organisers, who also want to celebrate the neighbourhood's Italian culture. Festa MC James Liotta said the aim was to create an event to rival the once great Lygon Street festival.
He hoped the new event would win over traders and the community. "Carlton has lost a bit of its Italian culture over the years; I think this could be something that brings a lot of that culture back." Ms Villella will host cooking demonstrations, one of many events planned for the October 14 festa at Piazza Italia, at the corner of Lygon Street and Argyle Place.
