TIM Rodrigo of SecondBite juggles for joy with Preston Market trader George Kolovos over the news that the market has joined forces with Darebin City Council and SecondBite to ensure that unwanted food is given to those in need.
The Food Bank Network will distribute food to emergency relief networks.
The 2009 Darebin Household Survey revealed almost one in five households did not have enough food.
SecondBite executive director Katy Barfield said: "The surplus fresh food from the Preston Market will help us deliver food to agencies in the local community including Reservoir Neighbourhood House and the Aborigines Advancement League, which support disadvantaged families and individuals."
