IN the soccer, Brunswick City is well placed to move closer to the top of the ladder after a mammoth 6-2 win over cellar dwellers Preston Lions. Brunswick City is now just three points behind ladder leaders Moreland City, on 25 points from eight wins and a draw.
They take on Westgate FC this weekend, sitting seventh with four wins and five draws. They are the only side in the bottom six with a positive goal difference but haven’t been able to break deadlocks often enough. Preston Lions are a chance to get out of the bottom two if they can beat Banyule City, while FC Clifton Hill plays Altona East Phoenix.
In the NFL, Fitzroy Stars were humbled by a rampaging Epping which is cruising towards the division two flag and promotion to division one. They are yet to lose a game, and belted both Fitzroy’s seniors and reserves. The Stars will still make the finals – they’re five games clear in fourth spot with only four games to go – but play second-placed Diamond Creek this week and need to show they will be competitive.
In the VAFA, games resume in the three Premier grades this weekend. In division four, the top four looks settled but four clubs are capable of grabbing fifth spot. North Brunswick, currently fifth, meets Mt Lilydale while West Brunswick takes on the Manningham Cobras.
