Metropolis: Anarchy rules for Dr Joe

DR Joseph Toscano should be familiar – he’s run in a few elections, though he says he has never voted. He has been espousing anarchy, the absence of rulers, since 1976, in essence ‘‘to highlight the lunacy of parliamentary rule,’’ as he told an interviewer in 2010 for isocracy.org.

In that interview, he also said he would take a seat in parliament as long as he could use superannuation funds to seed community groups.

That’s ironic enough that if it were a pair of glasses it would be on a Fitzroy hipster’s face. And you could easily mistake him for a hipster rather than the 60-year-old medical practitioner that he is: he broadcasts on 3CR and the graphic on his how-to-vote card features a creature reminiscent of Napoleon Dynamite’s liger. Vote 1 Dr Joe!
