BUNDOORA resident Daniel Guccione is a step closer to achieving his dream of playing professional tennis after he won Junior Athlete of the Year (male) at Tennis Victoria's championships dinner last month.
The 16-year-old follows in the footsteps of former champion Mark Philippoussis and his older cousin, Chris Guccione, who also won the award. Daniel is ranked number one nationally in his age group.
He already has a swag of achievements under his belt, including singles finalist and doubles winner at the 2011 Optus 16s national claycourt championships. Next month he heads to Fiji for an International Tennis Federation event, and training to make the Junior Davis Cup squad.
