Melbourne byelection: Kanis speaks up for public tenants

Labor's Jennifer Kanis says there is growing concern amongst public housing tenants about proposed state government changes to public housing.

Ms Kanis has been attending housing forums in the inner-north, last week taking part in a North Melbourne forum.

She said the forums were aimed at giving people a say on a new state government discussion paper that mooted a rent increase for tenants and limited tenure.

She said tenants that met public housing criteria should not be kicked out after a set time.

"These are people who can't get into the private market," she said.
