A NEW design that pays tribute to Richmond's Vietnamese and Chinese culture has been proposed for the Victoria Street gateway.
Yarra City Council wants community feedback on the design. Gone are the previous design's big chopsticks holding up soup bowl shaped street lamps, in are traditional Vietnamese hats suspended above the road, plus a large yellow structure – a symbol of Vietnamese boat and bird forms.
Federal and state governments have jointly committed almost $1.5 million, and Yarra City council $500,000, towards the project.
The council has so far spent $111,300 on the designs. Public submissions close on July 9. For more information, visit yarracity.vic.gov.au.
