Metropolis: DLP takes the early lead

LABOR and the Greens may be basking in the byelection spotlight, but the higher-profile candidates have already lost one race.

The Democratic Labor Party notched up an early, if minor, victory when the party’s Michael Murphy became the first candidate to officially complete the Victorian Electoral Commission nomination process.

In fact, he was the only candidate listed on the VEC website for much of last week. Unless the big parties get busy with the paperwork, all that campaigning could be for naught. After all, you’ve got to be in it to win it.
