IT'S not quite the fabled Faraway Tree, but Fairfield Primary School students, including Charlie, Thalia, Thomas and Lucca (pictured), are making their own special landmark, the Knitting Tree.
Every week, up to 65 students work on their yarn-bombing project, which started out with just 10 students in August.
Staff member Ril Gale, who initiated the project, says it provides something for kids to do apart from sport at lunchtime.
"It's lovely because not every kid is sporty. We have grade 6 boys teaching grade 1 girls how to knit so they can take part, too," she says.
