Reverse parking

20 Sep, 2011 12:53 PM
INNER-city drivers were met with a pop-up garden of earthly delights last Friday, when a Little Lonsdale Street parking space became an AstroTurfed park.

A group of committed greenies transformed the space with turf, pot plants and a decorative pink plastic flamingo for international Park(ing) Day. Passers-by were offered coffee or tea in reusable cups, a piece of fruit and a chair, then asked to ponder how public space was used.

“It’s about how we consider our streets and whether we choose to make them for people or for cars,” said the park’s founders. No tickets needed or wanted, thanks.
