DOUBTS have been raised about the future of live music at the East Brunswick Club, after music website Tonedeaf reported that an application has been lodged to demolish some of the building to make way for a five-storey development.

Under the plan lodged with Moreland City Council, the venue would be partially demolished and a five storey-plus basement development with shops and dwellings would be built.

East Brunswick Club music co-ordinator Jason Moore said a statement on the club’s future would be released soon.

He confirmed all advertised gigs would go ahead.

The application seeks for part of the site to remain a hotel and asks for requirements for a shop loading bay to be waived, as well as a reduction in car parking requirements for the development.

The plan will be out for public comment until December 6.

Moreland councillor and urban planning committee chairwoman Alice Pryor said it would be disappointing to lose another local music venue.

“We don’t have a lot of control over change of use, if it is allowed under the zoning already,” she said.
